VoIP Test.
Check jitter, packet loss
and call quality.
A free VoIP test for your business internet. In about 20 seconds it checks latency, jitter and packet loss, at idle and under load, estimates a call-quality (MOS) score and shows how many calls your connection can carry. No sign-up.

Hear what callers hear.
Press Start for a jitter test, packet loss test and latency check, both at idle and while your line is busy, plus a quick upload and download measurement. For the most useful result, run it from the network your phones use, on a computer plugged in with a cable, during a normal workday.
What latency, jitter, packet loss and MOS mean
Latency is how long a packet takes to make the round trip, in milliseconds. Above about 150 ms, people start talking over each other. Jitter is how much that delay changes from one packet to the next. Phones smooth it out with a small buffer, but past about 30 ms words start to clip. Packet loss is the share of voice packets that never arrive; even 1% can make audio choppy or robotic, because each lost packet is a missing slice of someone's sentence.
MOS (Mean Opinion Score) rates call quality from 1 (unusable) to 5 (perfect); real phone calls top out around 4.4. We estimate it from your worst latency, jitter and packet loss using the simplified ITU E-model: 4.2 and up is Excellent, 4.0 to 4.2 is Good, 3.6 to 4.0 is Fair, and anything lower is Poor.
How many calls can your connection handle?
A standard G.711 voice call uses about 100 kbps in each direction once network overhead is included. The test takes the slower of your upload and download, keeps 20% free for email, browsing and cloud apps, and divides the rest by 100 kbps. On cable internet, upload is usually the limit. Bandwidth is rarely the real problem, though: most choppy calls come from jitter and bufferbloat, not a slow plan.
Bufferbloat: why calls break up when someone uploads
Watch the under-load numbers. If latency jumps from 20 ms to 150 ms or more while the test fills your line, your router or modem is holding too much data in its buffers, and voice packets wait in line behind a file upload or cloud backup. The usual fix is a business router with QoS (quality of service) or SQM (smart queue management) that sends voice traffic first, often with a separate voice VLAN for the phones.
Wi-Fi or cable? Your ISP or your router?
Wi-Fi adds jitter and loss that a network cable does not, so desk phones should be wired whenever possible. To find the weak spot, run the test on a computer plugged directly into your router. If the wired result is clean, the problem is your Wi-Fi or office network. If it is poor even when the office is quiet, the problem is usually your internet provider's line. If it only goes bad under load, look at your router and its QoS settings.
How FlowPBX and FLTECHS fix call quality
FLTECHS installs and supports the FlowPBX cloud phone system for businesses in Naples, Fort Myers and Miami, and we fix the network underneath it: business routers with QoS, voice VLANs, structured cabling and Wi-Fi that covers the whole office. FlowPBX adds auto attendants, call flows, English and Spanish greetings, and a signed BAA for medical and dental offices. What is a good jitter and packet loss for VoIP?
Aim for latency under 150 ms, jitter under 30 ms and packet loss under 1%. A healthy wired business connection usually shows jitter under 10 ms and no loss. Numbers that look fine at idle but jump under load point to bufferbloat rather than a slow internet plan.
Why does my result say packet loss was not measured?
The packet loss test bounces 200 small packets off a FLTECHS relay server. If that server is busy, or your network blocks this kind of traffic (some firewalls and guest Wi-Fi networks do), the test finishes without it instead of guessing. The score then assumes no loss, so run the test again later for the full picture.
Does this VoIP test place a real call?
No. It measures the network conditions that decide call quality, against Cloudflare's global network, and estimates MOS from them. It is a strong indicator, but results change during the day, so test at your busiest hours too. It uses well under 150 MB of data.
Do you store my results?
No. The test runs in your browser and FLTECHS does not store your results. If you want help, the Send my results button copies a summary into our contact form so you do not have to retype the numbers, or call us at 239-986-8647.
